AVOID AFTER-THANKSGIVING CROWDS AT THE DMV

Use alternate services or make an appointment

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is urging the motoring public to avoid the crowds on its busiest days of the year – the days after the Thanksgiving weekend.
DMV offices will be closed over the entire four-day Thanksgiving weekend, November 22-25. The Monday following Thanksgiving is usually the busiest single day of the year.

“The holidays are hectic enough without spending time in a crowded office,” said DMV Director Terri Albertson. “Most transactions can be carried out online or at a kiosk.  If you do have to come in Monday or Tuesday, be prepared for some significant wait times. If you can wait a few extra days, you should visit our website and make the first available appointment.”

The DMV offers two dozen services online and self-service kiosks at 30 supermarkets and other partner locations.  Offices in Carson City, Las Vegas and Reno offer appointments though the DMV website at dmvnv.com/dashpass.

The department encourages customers to visit its website first to review the options.  The DMV website address is www.dmvnv.com.

Online services include address changes, registration renewals and driver history printouts. Many motorists are not aware they can register a newly-purchased vehicle online as well.

“If you buy a car from a Nevada dealer during the holidays, skip the trip to the DMV and register it online,” Albertson said.
