DMV technician named Nevada Employee Veteran of the Month

Marine Corps veteran Jeffrey Wyatt receives award for August 2022

CARSON CITY – Jeffrey Wyatt, a field services technician with the Department of Motor Vehicles, has been awarded the prestigious Employee Veteran of the Month award in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the state of Nevada.

Wyatt, a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran, started at the state in May 2021. Just 15 months later, he has proven an integral part of the DMV team -- especially as the agency transitions toward online services.

“Jeff takes the initiative daily,” said Samantha Perez, Wyatt’s former supervisor at the DMV office in Reno. “He noticed that our AAA fliers were not very user friendly and took it upon himself to draft a new version for us to use to distribute to our customers, who are now able to see if they can use an alternative service here at the DMV.

“He is always one to express his ideas on how we can come up with more efficient ways we can do things around the office.”

Perez also praised Wyatt’s positive attitude, ability to adapt to new challenges and willingness to take on new tasks, such as training new technicians and double-checking license plate applications.

“Whether it’s a customer who is new to our state and not sure of how things work or a co-worker who needs help with some plate questions, he is always there to help,” she added.

Wyatt started Marine Corps combat training in August 2003 at Camp Pendleton in California. He was stationed in Twentynine Palms, Calif. before completing training to become an Information Systems Specialist and Tactical Data Networking Specialist in January 2004.

Wyatt spent two years overseas with the 3rd Transportation Support Battalion in Okinawa, Japan, where he took part in tsunami relief efforts and joint task force training at Camp Fuji. He then relocated to the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz., assisting the 3rd Marine Air Wing and supporting Border Patrol improvement initiatives.

He ended his active duty career in 2007, only to report back one year later in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. That call-up ended in June 2009, when Wyatt retired as a sergeant serving in Camp Lejeune, NC. He left the armed services with a Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, a Humanitarian Service Medal, a Sea Service Deployment Medal and an Expert Rifleman Badge.

The Department of Motor Vehicles is proud to support all active-duty military members and veterans. The State of Nevada grants several vehicle tax exemptions for military service. The DMV also offers a full range of military and veteran license plates for those who served and their families.

The Employee Veteran of the Month award initiative began in January 2021. Each month an employee veteran is recognized by the Nevada Department of Administration Director and the Administrator of the Division of Human Resource Management.
