Letter from the Director

New information regarding Henderson office closure

CARSON CITY – Here at the Nevada DMV, we’ve recently heard lots of feedback about our decision to relocate our Henderson location to the intersection of Silverado Ranch and Valley View west of I-15 in south Las Vegas.

As Director of the DMV, I want to assure you that the new Silverado Ranch facility will still be equipped to handle all the needs of Henderson residents, especially with this location’s new easy and intuitive layout for customers. While we believe the Silverado Ranch facility – along with the services we’re preparing to move online – will be able to comfortably serve our customers in the South Valley, we understand that moving services farther from you can be an inconvenience.

Driver’s licenses and identification services are one of our shared concerns, as these services often require more frequent repeat visits to our office for older members of our communities. As such, we’re searching for a solution to allow for access to select DMV services with a focus on DL/ID needs.

One of the solutions we’re evaluating is expanding our existing partnerships within the automotive industry. Our partners at AAA already provide access to most vehicle registration services, movement permits, basic license plate services, issuance of handicapped plates and placards, and they can process duplicate title orders – and they do it all at no additional charge, even for non-members. Depending on the engagement with the community and the agreements reached with local officials, the DMV may be able to have pop-up DMV services at public locations at least once a week.

Additionally, we’re also looking to maintain a smaller satellite office in the existing location with the intention of training the public how to use our online tools and processing driver license or identification transactions.

In an ideal world, we would be able to keep both facilities open, but regrettably, the DMV is only allotted a certain percentage of the Nevada State Highway Fund to operate with – and the State Highway Fund doesn’t stretch as far as it used to. However, the DMV is more ready than ever to assist customers in an effective, efficient, and caring way.

Please rest assured that we are committed to finding an amenable solution for both our agency and your community, and we’re looking forward to our partnership going forward.

Tonya Laney,

DMV Director
