Delayed Start for Elko DMV on Wednesday

Office Needs to Close for Employee Training

ELKO – The Elko Department of Motor Vehicles office (DMV) will have a delayed start on Wednesday, August 14, due to employee training. The office will open at 1 p.m. and close regularly at 5 p.m.

“We are getting ever-so-close to kicking off our Rapid Registration process that will be launched exclusively in our Sahara and Elko DMV offices on August 19,” DMV Director Tonya Laney said. “This will be one of the first big projects of our department’s transformation and we’re excited to share it with everyone.”

This new process will allow a customer to upload documents to the DMV remotely through a new portal and skip waiting in line. Now in the comfort of their own home, or any place of the user’s choosing, these individuals can get approved on their registration application.

This new process is accessible for:

  • Those who are new to Nevada and have not yet registered their car in the state.
  • Those who have purchased a vehicle from a private party and have a title with their name on it.
  • Those who have purchased their car from anywhere outside of Nevada, including dealerships.

Anyone who purchases a vehicle from a Nevada dealership can already register it online.

“With our release date nearing, we must ensure that our technicians at both testing offices understand and can execute this new registration process for our customers,” Laney said. “We recently completed a soft launch at the Sahara office in Las Vegas where our techs were able to receive lengthy hands-on training practice with this new application. We will be doing the same at our Elko office.”

Rapid Registration is still in its first phase, which means participants will still need to make an appointment and pick up their license plates in person at the Elko office. Future enhancements will allow a fully automated process, skipping a trip to the DMV altogether.
