Rapid Registration Has Arrived at the DMV

A New Way to Register Your Car - Online!

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is excited to announce the release of Rapid Registration at the Elko and Sahara Las Vegas areas on August 19, 2024.

“This is the first rollout of direct, online registration services,” said Director Tonya Laney. “Rapid Registration has been in the works for quite some time, but we are joyous to finally see this product come to fruition and released to our Las Vegas and Elko customers.”

With this new system, customers can upload documents to the DMV remotely through a new portal to skip the sometimes hours-long trip to an office where the guarantee of a successful transaction is not always promised. Now, in the comfort of their own home or place of their choosing, these individuals can get approved on their application process without ever having to make a trip to the DMV.

Those who are eligible to participate in this release are:

  • Customers who have purchased a vehicle from an out-of-state dealership.
  • Customers who have purchased a vehicle from a private party or was gifted a vehicle.
  • Customers who have purchased a vehicle from a private party with a lien holder.
  • New residents to Nevada who have not yet registered their vehicle in the state.

Those who have purchased vehicles from Nevada dealerships can currently register online using the Electronic Dealer, Rebuilder of Lessor’s Report of Sale or Lease (EDRS) system. Customers can renew their registration online with a MyDMV account.

“Rapid Registration is in its first phase, meaning that customers will still need to make an appointment to pay for their plates and pick them up at the participating Elko and Sahara offices,” stated Laney. “We are already working to build the second phase, which will include a fully automated system available to the entire state.”

The DMV is heavily pushing their “DMV Wherever” brand, which urges customers to do their business online, instead of standing in line at an office. See more information on Rapid Registration here.
