County Assessors in Nevada grant Governmental Services Tax exemptions for veterans with certain dates of service, disabled veterans, surviving spouses and the blind.
Some assessors or other county offices in rural areas offer DMV vehicle registration services to local residents only as indicated in the listings for each office.
Storey County is currently unable to process DMV transactions.
Exemptions may be used to reduce property taxes or vehicle Governmental Services Taxes.
Bring the appropriate documentation for your blind, surviving spouse or veterans exemption to your county assessor's office. If approved, the assessor will issue an exemption number. Exemptions must be renewed annually.
Contact your local assessor for details. The Clark County Asessor has plain-English explanations of the options. (Clark County forms and procedures are not applicable in other counties.)

NRS 371.103 lists the dates of service required for eligibility. Veterans may designate all or part of their exemption for the Nevada Veterans Home Account. Use the Designation of Use for Veterans Exemption (VP 187) (PDF) form.
A veterans exemption may be transferred to the veteran's spouse by using the Affidavit for Transfer of Exemption to Spouse (VP 259) (PDF) form. Transferred exemptions may not be used for online renewals.
