Fee Exemption

Homeless - Age 25 and Older

The DMV can waive the fees for homeless persons to obtain a duplicate ID card for persons who are 25 years of age and older and declare themselves homeless. This is a one-time exemption only. See the Declaration of Homeless Status (DMV 128) (PDF) form for more information.

Homeless - Under 25

Persons who are under 25 years of age and declare themselves homeless are entitled to exemptions for all fees to obtain an original, renewal or duplicate Nevada driver's license, ID card or Driver Authorization Card. They are not required to reimburse the DMV for any waived fees.

All persons wishing to use these fee exemptions must apply in person at a DMV office and complete a Declaration of Homeless Status (DMV 128) (PDF) form.

Released Offenders

The DMV can waive the $18.25 duplicate fee for persons who have been released from prison or jail within the past 90 days. You should bring official documentation of your release date from the Nevada Department of Corrections, its counterpart in another state, or a local jail. This is a one-time exception for duplicates only and you must complete the Request for Waiver of Duplicate Fees = Released Prisoners (DP 190) (PDF) form and apply for this in-person at a DMV office.

You may be required to reimburse the $3.25 photo fee to the DMV at the time of your next regular renewal if you are employed at the time of renewal.

The fee exemption does not apply to new residents obtaining a Nevada license or ID for the first time, renewals, any fees or requirements associated with a license suspension or revocation, and commercial licenses.

See the Released Prisoner or Inmate Driver's License and Identification Card Information (DMV 013) (PDF) for information on original licenses and renewals.
