Ordering Options
A DMV office visit is necessary to receive plates unless you are using the online registration for a vehicle purchased from a Nevada dealer.
Make an appointment well in advance if you will be visiting an office in Carson City, Henderson, Las Vegas or Reno.
Sequential Numbering and Plate Swaps
Original Registration
Use the Online Vehicle Registration if you have just purchased a vehicle from a Nevada dealer and are eligible. You can order most charitable plates during the registration.
Otherwise, charitable plates with sequential numbers are available at any DMV Full Service Office or County Assessor which offers vehicle registration services. They will be issued with your registration.

Plate Swap on Existing Registration
To swap plates on an existing Nevada registration, bring the old plates to the DMV or County Assessor which offers vehicle registration services.
No registration renewal or emissions inspection is necessary if your renewal is not due. A $5 substitute plate fee will apply in addition to the specialty plate fees.
If your renewal is due within 35 days or you choose to renew, you will need to complete an emissions inspection if required and if the last test was completed more than 90 days ago. Your expiration date will change if the current expiration date is more than 35 days away. Credit will be given for the unused portion of your current Nevada registration.
Swapping Plates between Vehicles
If you are transferring plates between vehicles that you own, you must renew the registration(s) for a full year, present Evidence of Insurance card(s) and Emissions Inspection(s) if required. Credit will be given for any unused portion of a current registration.
Bring the license plate application, any required documentation, Evidence of Insurance and your current odometer reading to a DMV Full Service Office or County Assessor which offers vehicle registration services.
A $5 substitute plate fee will apply in addition to the plate fees. No registration renewal or emissions test is required if your registration is more than 35 days from renewal.
f your renewal is due or you choose to renew the registration, you must provide a passing emissions test if required and the last test was completed more than 90 days prior. You will receive credit for the unused portion of your current registration if it is not due for renewal.
Personalized
When you order a personalized version, we will register the vehicle or complete a plate substitution, issue a movement permit and mail the plates to you. Personalization is available only on the plates listed under All Veterans & Families.
Use our online Plate Search & Ordering to check for available numbers. Personalized plates may take 8 to 9 weeks for delivery. Make an appointment for your DMV office visit as soon as you order the plates.
- You may order in person at a DMV office. We will issue a temporary movement permit and mail the plates to you. This is suggested if you are obtaining an original registration.
- You may order online, by mail or by fax and pick up your plates when they are ready. This is suggested if you have an existing registration. See also the Plate Swap procedure above.
